Privacy Policy

Please read this Privacy Policy carefully before using the First Jobby website

First Jobby ("we", "our", "us") runs firstjobby.com (the "Platform"), a free job board for internships, new grad and entry-level roles. This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, why, who we share it with and the choices you have.

1. Who We Are

The Platform is operated by Mohammed Gouse Nihal, Rida House, Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, India. For anything related to your data, email [email protected]. This address is also our grievance contact under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023.

2. Information We Collect

  1. Account information. If you sign in, we store your name, email address and profile picture (from Google or GitHub, or the email you use for a magic link), plus sign-in records for your active sessions, including the IP address and browser they came from.
  2. Job alerts. If you create a job alert, we store your name, email address and the kinds of jobs you want to hear about.
  3. Usage data. We use PostHog to understand how the Platform is used: pages viewed, buttons and links clicked (for example "Apply"), filters used, referring site, device and browser type, and approximate location derived from your IP address. We count clicks on "Apply" links so we know which listings help people.
  4. Security data. We keep short-lived counters tied to IP addresses to stop abuse, such as repeated sign-in emails.
  5. Advertising data. Our advertising partner Google may collect information through cookies and similar technologies, as described in Section 5.

Job listings on the Platform are collected from employers' public career pages and hiring systems. They describe jobs, not you.

3. How We Use Your Information

  • To run the Platform, sign you in and keep your account secure.
  • To send the emails you ask for: sign-in links and job alerts. Every job alert email has an unsubscribe link.
  • To understand and improve the Platform using analytics.
  • To show ads that keep the Platform free.
  • To prevent fraud and abuse, and to meet legal obligations.

If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, we rely on: performance of a contract (your account and alerts), your consent (analytics and advertising cookies), and our legitimate interests (cookieless visit counts, security and abuse prevention).

4. Analytics Without Cookies by Default

By default, PostHog counts visits without cookies or local storage, using a privacy-preserving hash computed on PostHog's servers. Only if you click Accept in our cookie banner do we use cookies to recognise returning visitors and, if you are signed in, link your activity to your account. You can change your mind by clearing your cookies for firstjobby.com; the banner will ask again.

5. Cookies and Advertising

  • Essential cookies keep you signed in. They are needed for the Platform to work.
  • Analytics cookies (PostHog) are used only after you accept them.
  • Advertising cookies. We use Google AdSense to show ads. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this and/or other sites on the Internet. You can opt out of personalised advertising in Google's Ads Settings, and opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info. Visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland are asked for consent through Google's certified consent message before personalised ads are shown. 6. Who We Share Information With

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with service providers that help us run the Platform:

  • Railway: Hosting and database (United States)
  • Cloudflare: Domain, DNS and content delivery (Global)
  • PostHog: Product analytics (European Union)
  • Zoho ZeptoMail: Sending sign-in and alert emails (India)
  • Google: Sign-in with Google, advertising (AdSense) (Global)
  • GitHub: Sign-in with GitHub (United States)
  • OpenRouter / TypeSafe: Classifying job postings (receives job listing text only, never user data) (United States)

We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect our rights or the safety of others, or with your consent.

California and other US state residents: we do not sell personal information. Advertising cookies may count as "sharing" for targeted advertising under some state laws. You can opt out by clicking Decline in our cookie banner and by using the Google opt-outs in Section 5.

7. International Transfers

We are based in India and our providers operate in the United States, the European Union and elsewhere, so your information may be processed outside your country. We rely on our providers' standard safeguards, such as Standard Contractual Clauses, where required.

8. How Long We Keep It

  • Account data: until you ask us to delete your account.
  • Job alerts: until you unsubscribe or delete them.
  • Sessions: until they expire or you sign out.
  • Abuse-prevention counters: minutes to hours.
  • Analytics events: as long as they are useful for improving the Platform, after which they are deleted.

9. Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or export your personal information, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to withdraw consent at any time. To use any of these rights, including deleting your account, email [email protected]. We may need to verify your identity first. We will not treat you differently for using your rights. If you are in the EEA or the UK, you can also complain to your local data protection authority.

10. Security

We use encrypted connections (HTTPS), access controls and reputable providers to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

11. Children

The Platform is not meant for children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will change the effective date above, and for material changes we will notify signed-in users by email or on the Platform.
